APPROVED & INSTALLED – New Parking Restrictions on Roedean Road

APPROVED & INSTALLED – New Parking Restrictions on Roedean Road

The new parking restrictions are now up and running on Roedean Road and we have already seen a dramatic reduction in parking here.  The new parking restrictions which mean that coaches and HGV’s are not allowed to park on the road were installed following the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee meeting on Tuesday 10 October 2017 which voted to approve new parking and road marking restrictions on Roedean Road.   The plans were recommended by BHCC Transport officers following a two year campaign by the RRA committee highlighting the health and safety issues which have been escalating over the last ten years.   RRA is delighted that BHCC has taken this opportunity to dramatically improve the health and safety of Roedean Road for all road users, cars, cyclists, pedestrians and buses, once and for all.  For more information regarding the committee’s decision go to ETS Committee 10/10/17

Roedean Residents Association Committee is aware that for the new parking restrictions to have a lasting positive effect Enforcement by BHCC traffic wardens is essential.  The Committee will attempt to monitor this and maintain pressure on the council but all local residents can help ensure the new restrictions work by calling BHCC parking hotline when ever a coach or HGV is illegally parked in the area.

Residents should call 0345 603 5469 and select option 2.

BHCC state that they aim to attend within one hour between the hours of 8am to 8pm.   For more details from BHCC website go to reporting-a-vehicle-parked-where-it-should-not-be

News article below is from August 2017

The Council have published details of their proposed Traffic Regulation Order introducing new parking restriction on Roedean Road.

We urge all local residents and users of Roedean Road to support the new TRO by following the link at the bottom of this page and registering their support on the Council website.  All support and comments must be registered by 1st September 2017.

The new restrictions will see double yellow lines introduced along the full length of the northern side of Roedean Road and along the southern side from the central bus stop towards Marine Drive.

Double yellow lines will also be introduced around the Roedean Way junction to improve safety here and will be extended at the junction to Roedean Crescent.  The pedestrian walk way currently on the northern side of the road will be moved to the southern side of the road thereby serving the bus stop and new parking bays more successfully.

Finally 1, 2, and 4 hour payment parking restrictions will be introduced along Roedean Road between the corner of The Cliff and the central bus stop on Roedean Road.   These restrictions will be specifically for cars and vans only and will be monitored by BHCC’s traffic wardens.

The proposed new plans for Roedean Road are in direct response to years of campaigning by Roedean Residents Association, and more recently in response to the professional consultants report commission by RRA which demonstrated that serious health and safety issues existed on Roedean Road when coaches and HGV’s are parked along it.
