Beware of letting ‘Unknown Callers’ into your Home

Beware of letting ‘Unknown Callers’ into your Home

Roedean Neighbourhood Watch has been alerted to an incident of a man claiming to be an employee of Iron Designs and needing to check the safety of balcony railings in the property.

When the manager of Iron Designs was contacted they had no knowledge of the employee and had not engaged anyone to check railings safety in Roedean or The Cliff.

The message here is clear – be very careful when greeting “cold callers” at your front door.   Ensure that you don’t let anyone into your property unless you are expecting them.   Always ask to see identification and if you are in any doubt turn the caller away and contact the company they are claiming to be with and ask them to make an appointment.

Energy company’s who may need to visit your home to take a meter reading will all carry an ID pass which should have the following details on:

  • Name of the person and his or her signature.
  • A reference number.
  • A colour photograph.
  • Expiry date of the ID card.
  • An easy to see contact number.
  • IF IN DOUBT ALWAYS CALL THE CONTACT NUMBER BEFORE LETTING THE PERSON INTO YOUR HOME OR TURN THEM AWAY
