Volunteer Support Required Urgently if Roedean Residents Association is to continue operating

If the Association is to continue there must be volunteers to serve as CHAIRMAN & TREASURER OF THE ASSOCIATION.

Roedean Residents Association urgently needs volunteers to join the committee and to take on the rôles of Chairman and Treasurer.  The current Chairman and vice-Chair/Treasurer have given their services to RRA for three and six years respectively and they are both retiring at this years AGM.   None of the remaining present committee is able to take on these positions at this stage and without new volunteer support from Association members the future of RRA looks very uncertain;  it simply can’t continue to operate without these positions being filled.

The next AGM will be on Monday 30th April.  If by the 1st of April no suitable volunteers have come forward to fill theses positions the existing committee will have to recommend suspension of the operation of the Association for the year 2018/19,  until hopefully a new Chairman and more committee members can be found.  If by 2019 a properly constituted committee cannot be established the Association will simply have to be wound up.

The RRA has achieved a great deal over the last three years and we believe it would be a tragedy if it was to cease to exist. We have finally won the battle with Roedean Road succeeding in getting new parking restrictions and ensuring that coaches and HGV’s are prohibited from entering our neighbourhood streets and increasing the safety for pedestrians and vehicles. We have successfully won the official recognition of the public footpath around the Paddock and we have engaged the South Down National Park Authority and the local farmer towards achieving improved signage and public awareness of the Roedean Bottom public footpaths and access rights.

Crucially this year, the Association has been successful in raising, so far,  over £3,800 towards our Pitch and Putt Appeal which has the objective of ensuring that Site 37 (as it is known) is not included in the BHCC City Plan, due to be finalised in 2019/20.   The rôle and standing of the RRA is highly desirable to help achieve success in this stand-out planning matter with the Council.   We have also successfully re-launched the Neighbourhood Watch scheme for the area and developed a new Website, so the association itself is very healthy EXCEPT we need new volunteer committee members and above all a Chairman to co-ordinate the work  AND WE NEED THIS SUPPORT NOW.

To those who have donated towards opposing the development of part of the Pitch & Putt Golf Course this work will continue and your donations will be safe and used responsibly and with transparency.

We hope you can volunteer your time and that you will contact us by replying to this e-mail to offer your support.   We are happy to talk to you if you have any questions or concerns about the work involved and the pleasure you could receive from being on the committee.  Please remember that without a Chairman to co-ordinate the work of the Association the future of RRA is at serious risk and the special nature of the neighbourhood we all enjoy may be greatly diminished.
